How To Order Healthier When Ordering Out

By Richard Bucket

If you care about your health and what you feed your body, here are a few sensible tips for eating healthier when you are eating out. Just by making a few smart decisions you can have relax and enjoy your time out, all without eating a ridiculous amount of calories and food.

It is always best to order salad dressings and other sauces on the side. This gives you the power over how much condiments or dressing is used.

Creamy sauces will have more calories and fat than tomato sauces. If you are wanting to order a pasta dish, it is smarter (calorie wise) to stick with dishes that use tomato sauces.

Grilled vegetables and fish do not need to be cooked with butter or oil. Ask for your grilled dishes to be without butter or oil.

Water is the best choice when it comes to drinks. Forget about alcohol, soda, milk, or juice, they all will just add to your bill and to your total calories. Water is absolutely the best drink.

If you must get dessert, eat less of it. Share a dessert with someone so you don't eat all of it.

Cream based soups, just as cream based sauces, are higher in calories. Choose a non-creamy soup for a low calorie meal that is still filling.

Part of eating sensible is making smart replacements. Replace sour cream, cheese, butter, and bacon with salsa, when you get a baked potato.

Hunger signs tell you when you should eat, and when you should stop eating. When you are no longer hungry, stop eating! In fact, it is best to only get 80% full, as 100% can make you feel lethargic.

Don't try to finish everything. Eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. Since the feeling of fullness is delayed, eat slowly so you don't overeat, and take the rest home!

Choose your sides carefully. Steamed vegetables or a baked potato are good choices.

Adding butter just adds fat, so eat rolls or bread without it, as well as pancakes.

Order food that is either baked, grilled, boiled, poached, or steamed. These cooking methods do not use as much fat.

Get a dish that includes healthy vegetables or fruits. Either vegetables or fruits are smart additions to any meal.

Whole grains are better for you than the heavily processed ones. Choose to eat brown rice instead of white rice, and whole grain bread over white bread.

When you choose the healthier option, never look at it as depriving yourself of delicious food. The word "depriving" is negative, and should never be used when you are making positive choices for yourself and your health!
