How Drip Coffee Makers Work?

By Katherine Thompson

For many people, a day would not be complete without a cup of coffee - from breakfast at home, coffee breaks in the office, to keeping themselves up while working on midnights or just having a conversation with a friend. Coffee has been a good companion to most people with its flavourful taste and caffeine rush in the body. You drink your coffee everyday but have your ever wonder how your favourite drink is processed? Form brewing the coffee beans through the use of coffee makers to enjoying a cup of hot coffee.

Generally, the most common type of coffee machines is the drip coffee maker where hot water drips down passing through a bag of coffee beans. This unit has five basic parts: the water reservoir, drip area, coffee grounds holder, coffee kettle, and hot plate. These parts feature different uses which will be described in a while.

Reminder before brewing, you must check the amount of water poured in the reservoir because the amount of water used will have a huge impact on the flavour of your coffee. It there's too less water, your coffee will have a very strong taste. Meanwhile, if there's too much water, the coffee will be diluted with water, making it tasteless.

Now, for the process: the water inside the reservoir is heated with the use of a resistive heating coil that gives out electricity when passed through by electricity. The heated water, which is just below the boiling temperature rate, is then transferred through a tube that goes to the drip area. The drip area is where the hot water is dripped to the grounds placed on the coffee grounds holder. It is where coffee is made: the hot water soak and brew the coffee grounds, thus producing the most-loved coffee.

The coffee kettle, which is made by glass by a durable plastic handle, is used to serve the coffee for consumption. Because it is made by glass, you can monitor the amount of coffee to know when you can start serving or replenishing it.

Under the coffee kettle is a hot plate. This part supports the pot and at the same time, keeps the coffee warm for more than an hour. Moreover, it warms the cold water in the reservoir to be used in brewing.

Today's coffee machines made brewing coffee easier as all you have to do is turn the switch on and the unit will do the rest. Other features such as built-in coffee grinder and froth maker, you can make more types of coffee.
