Good Food Habits In and Out the Homes Portals Today

By Clemente Heinl

Overweight among kids became quite alarming according to recent statistics. The over-sizing has lead America to point a finger at TV food ads and as well as on the fast food industry. This concern must on the other hand be attacked first by parents and families.

Being extra keen in reinforcing voluntary guidelines to decrease TV ads will never solve the issue according to a group of physicians. Advertising junk food to young children will now be taken critically head-to-head with the food industry.Telling the difference between ads and programming is quite a tough job for young children to accomplish at their age. The obesity and overweight rate will be significantly reduced by 17 percent once we start banning fast food ads.

We must accept the fact that this problem doesn't only concern the food industry. This too penetrates the smallest unit of society-the family. Reliable studies alarmingly reveal that one in five children from ages 2 to 5 is overweight or obese before reaching kindergarten. These young children aren't confined in schools yet. The affectivity of the school lunch program shouldn't be questioned at this early age.

Parents as well as caregivers are now to be held responsible in providing healthy foods to children. The decision on what foods to be served, where will they be served, and when they will be served relies on them.Supervision is their main role to play. Food determination is a major task for families with small children.Parents and caregivers need to be educated on what foods children should consume and in what portion.

Nutrition information and media talk highlight what needs to be eaten in order to stay healthy and maintain weight. People remained bewildered regarding the constituents of the valid information before they chose to ignore it.

At an early age, young children should be oriented with less-processed and fresh foods. These children's appetite and palate must have the proper adaptation to healthy real foods before they are exposed to hamburger, chicken nuggets, pizza, soda pop, sweets, and other empty calorie foods.Education on believing and knowing real food is the natural way to eat, rather than consuming highly processed foods must be given significant importance.

Here are some effective tips to promote good food habits inside and outside the home:

It is quite improper to use food as a reward or punishment. Appropriate food and nutrition should not be bargained and must be considered of high importance in these children's lives.

Plant-based foods like fruits and vegetables should be inserted in the planning of meals.

Keep sugars, soda pop, energy drinks, and processed foods out of sight in the kitchen. Lemon and other fruits or juices can be added to water, the best of all beverages, for flavoring purposes.

It is also best to bring children along during grocery shopping to talk about healthy and less-than-healthy foods.

If possible, purchase organically grown fruits and vegetables.

Search for the words "whole grain" in labels as the first ingredient on pastas and breads as well.

Children deserve to spend time cooking with you. Bring them awareness that cooking is a part of normal life and doesn't have to be that burdensome in any way.Awareness of where their food came from can be enhanced by involving children in cooking real food.
