Bakeware

By Georgina Pollard

When it comes to children, baking is usually one of their favourite kitchen activities. Over the years our kitchens seem to develop a wide range of baking and preserving equipment to make almost any bakery foods that we eat. Whether it's a cake for a celebration, perhaps a birthday or an anniversary, or just some simple bakery items to take to work or to share at the local school fair, buying the right bakeware equipment can make a massive difference to the finished product.

Flexibility in baking material is crucial and that is where the material silicone comes in. Built to withstand extreme temperatures, silicone can be used in almost any type of oven, with almost any type of food and you don't have to worry about it melting or ruining your food as the sturdy material will remain in shape throughout the process.

The flexibility of silicone makes it perfect for baking with children, as unlike glass or other materials it will not shatter if it is dropped and it is also relatively easy to clean and can be put straight through the dishwasher.

Many cakes can be easily ruined when trying to remove them from their mould or tin and silicone makes this job a lot easier. The flexibility of the material means that the cake can be easily pushed out of the tin without the need to dig in there with a knife to remove it.

Silicone also remains fairly cool and does not heat up to a high temperature like other cake tins or trays, this means that if your children to decide to remove the cake from the oven themselves there is less chance that they will incur a burn. Likewise, if you leave the tin lying around on the side it will cool very quickly making it safe for children to carry.
