Wooden Salad Sets With Charm

By Mikhail Vornokova

Wooden salad sets have been bought by consumers for many years and are frequently chosen for serving their favorite Greek or Caesar variety. With an eagerness to return to nature comes a love of all things organic, including wood. Authentic products cost more, but they last a long time.

There are three parts to a basic set. One is the big bowl inside of which all ingredients will be mixed. It has to be deep enough to hold lots of chopped fruit or vegetables, though some are deeper than others. The next parts in your set are the matching bowls and tongs. The tongs can be long and narrow or short and stubby.

Some bowls are made with a short, narrow platform on the bottom. Others sit flat against the table. There are half-orbs, triangles with vertical lips on the top and shallow spheres.

Certain designs are more elaborate. The edges flow in a pattern of waves. The dish may form a leaf or other creative shape. Since a leaf is not very deep, it could not be a mixing bowl.

Instead, it could be a presentation dish. Add other dishes of a similarly creative style to offer dinner guests a selection of salad ingredients. They can then choose from those offered to create their own salads rather than helping themselves from a pre-mixed dish. A design made completely of wood can be attractive, but breaking the flow with a bit of stainless steel provides a change of pace.

Just like wood flooring, there are authentic and simulated products. Simulated ones are lighter and cheaper than the real thing. Authentic wooden articles are made from bamboo, cherry, acacia and other types of wood which can be very light or quite dark. Unique patterns formed by the natural grain add to their charm. They are safe to wash by hand and many do not absorb odors.
