The Sweetness Of Lego Candy

By Alma Martinez

Lego candy got its name from the popular building block toys. The individual pieces are made to look just like the blocks that the toy manufacturers make. The edibles comes in a multitude of different shapes that are able to be stuck together, allowing the owner to build various creations before devouring the candies.

They come in about seven different colors in all. Each color of block has a different flavor to it. For example, blue blocks taste like raspberry and yellow blocks taste like bananas. These different flavors keeps the taste buds guessing while one is eating these treats.

Compressed dextrose is the main ingredient, making them a little bit chalky to the touch. This very same ingredient is used to make other types of sweets. Some of these include the kid-friendly edible necklace and bracelet candies, and also Smarties.

These can be created quite easily at home, as well. All that is needed is some fruit-flavored gelatin mix, such as Jell-O, and some toy bricks. The gelatin is poured into the brick and then left alone to harden. When they're done, they have a clear, see-through consistency, differing from the solid colored type that is bought in the store.

These candies are extremely hard and completely solid. To break them down quicker, many choose to suck on them for a time before biting in. However, this sucking has lead to some pretty serious situations in the past.

Because they are sucked on so much and have some fairly sharp corners, Lego candy has been lodged in the throat of a few toddlers and small children, causing them to choke. A couple have died from doing this, or by swallowing the real toys. Many parents claim that these candies cause their kids to play with the toys as though they are edible. For this reason, these fun and tasty candies should be reserved for children of an older age.
