A Simple Way To Remove Pomegranate Seeds

By Rodger Certer

If you want to plant or eat pomegranate seeds, you need to remove them from the fruit. Knowing how to do this can be very easy, and can make the removal fast for you.

Make sure that you hold the fruit over a container so that the seeds and juice has someplace to go. Make sure that you are wearing clothing that can be ruined, since the juice from this fruit will stain clothing and skin if you are not careful. If you find that juice has gotten on a cutting surface or the counter, you can clean it with lemon juice to remove the pink so it does not set into a stain.

To begin, you want to cut off the top of the fruit where the stem is still attached. This is called the crown, and removing it will make it much easier to get to the seeds.

Take a knife and make cuts into the rind from the top to bottom in several places, making sure not to cut all the way through the fruit. This is key to the following steps and making the seeds come out in a simple step.

Allow the fruit to soak on a bowl of cold water for five to 10 minutes. Break it apart under the water before it soaks. The seeds will fall to the bottom and the rest of the fruit will float. Skim the water with a slotted spoon to remove the fruit, and then the seeds with a sieve.

Pat the seeds dry with a paper towel and make sure that all the water is removed before you store them. Seeds can be eaten immediately so that can last in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

With the many pomegranate seeds in the fruit, removal is necessary and learning the right way to do this can make it much easier to enjoy the fruit. Planting or eating the seeds, separating them can make you enjoy the fruit more.
