Top White Wines Currently from Local New York Wineries

By Jeff Myers

The New York region holds a Top 5 spot for most prolific wine making states in the the U.S., which most definitely includes white wines. Below are some examples of the currently most popular white wines in New York from wineries in the New York region.

The Macari Sauvignon Blanc 2008

The making of this wine was described as coming from a "challenging" vintage. The liquid itself is green in hue, with a gooseberry/grapefruit scent and moderately acidic on the tongue. Described as a little sharper than some of the finer white wines, it is universally popular in the area. This vintage runs at approximately $23 per bottle.

2008 Billsboro Riesling

Winemaker Vinny Aliperti gives us this vintage described as having many regional traits and also of having a crisp, fruity flavor. To distinguish this blend from others is its use of a process called arrested fermentation rather than back-sweetening, which is alleged to give the wine "crispness". This Riesling can be discovered for approximately $16 per bottle.

Goose Watch Diamond

Famous for hailing from Finger Lakes, Goose Watch Diamond is sometimes known as one the finer white wines, its grapes grown in NY for the last 100 years. It is said to have a very floral scent and when combined with the fresh grape aroma, they work superbly to form a semi sweet wine. This wine can be purchased foraround $10 per bottle.

Martha Clara Gewurztraminer 2008

This specific wine is described as having the flavor and scent of jasmine, with a slight orange tanginess without the prominent flavor that sometimes ruin the enjoyment of a good wine. This vintage can be purchased for roughly $20 per bottle.

2007 Jamesport Reserve

This wine was usually expounded to have a vanilla smell without having been overdone. It also had what has been characterized as a creamy texture, much to tasters' delight. To get hold of a bottle of the 2007 Jamesport Reserve, you'll find yourself spending about $30.

So if you would like to get your paws on one of New York's most popular white wines, it truly shouldn't be that hard or that pricey. Some of the greatest and most well liked wines are locally produced, locally pressed, and locally loved.
