There Aren't Many People Who Don't Like Chicken Fingers

By Marsha Silva

Chicken fingers can also be called chicken tenders, chick fillets, or chicken strips. Names aside, they are all basically the same item. They are chicken meat (usually white meat made from the rib meat trimmed from the breast.) that doesn't have any bones in it or skin on it.

They are then coated with a breading mixture. The most common preparations is to then deep fry them. However, grilling or brazing is a great option. Some people go without the breading.

Restaurants in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe all serve them. They are served in Europe to a lesser extent as other items, such as schnitzel skew the boundaries of the recipe. They are most popular, by far, in the United States.

The most common variant in recipes is the quality of meat and the style of breading. In the United States, the New England states make theirs with a smooth texture from the egg batter they use. These are almost exclusively served as a main dish or side in Chinese restaurants.

In other regions, a variation is served without eggs in the batter and there is a much more coarse texture. Fast food chains have a tendency to use reformed chickens in their recipe. Though cut, reformed bits are more commonly referred to as 'nuggets'.

Sauces for dipping are a very popular side item. The most common are blue cheese or ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, buffalo sauce, sweet and sour sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, and butter and garlic. There are many many more variations of sauces, but these are the most common.

There are many different serving options as well. Typically, they'll come with french fries. They can even be put on a salad or served on a bun. There are even entire restaurant based on chickens, and the strips are a staple of those establishments.

These strips were introduced on the menus of several fast food chains, but never caught on because of the popularity and inexpensive nature of nuggets. More commonly now, these chains advertise 'all white meat' in their nuggets, rather than going with full strips.

This food item is a staple of the American diet. They can be very healthy or completely unhealthy based on their exact preparation. Chicken fingers are here to stay, and frankly, they are delicious. Read more about: chicken fingers
