The Best Ways To Make Chocolate Covered Popcorn

By Lana Bray

Sometimes, people may be craving a treat, but are uncertain what they feel like having. They may be craving a sweet or salty snack. For people who cannot make up their mind, it may be a good idea to sample chocolate covered popcorn. It is a popular treat can satisfy salty and sweet cravings at the same time.

To make this treat, spray a big baking pan thoroughly with cooking spray. Butter cooking spray may add some good flavor. Then, add 10 cups of popcorn to the dish. You may want to use air-popped popcorn, due to the fact that it is healthy to eat and does not cause residue from the popcorn oil. Then you must heat the oven to 320 degrees.

Next, combine 1/4 cup of butter with 2 cups of chocolate chips pieces. Add 1 cup of corn syrup and pour the whole mixture in a medium-sized pan. Heat the mixture over medium heat, and be sure to stir constantly until the mixture begins to boil. Be careful not to let it burn or boil over.

Pour the mixture over the popcorn. Stir and toss the mixture thoroughly so that all of it is covered. Bake it for 45 minutes in the oven, while stirring it often. Once you have baked it, allow it to cool completely, before breaking it up into smaller pieces. Store the snack in clean plastic bags or seal-able containers.

If baking does not appeal to you, or if the summer months are too hot to turn on an oven, you may want to try the no-bake version of this recipe instead. This recipe is very easy and equally as tasty as the baked recipe. Begin by spraying a large bowl with some non-stick cooking spray and pouring 12 cups of popped corn into the same bowl.

Melt down some butter over a low heat. A tablespoon of butter should be sufficient. Then, mix 1/4 cup of corn syrup with 3 tablespoons of dry cocoa powder. Either milk chocolate or dark chocolate are good choices. Add to this three tablespoons of skim milk or whole milk. Then add a bit of salt.

Stir together constantly, until the mixture starts to boil. Pour this over your popped corn, toss it all together, and make sure all the pieces are coated well. Then, spread the mixture in a thick layer onto a greased cookie tray. Let this stand for a while until it is completely cool. When the food is ready, bag it up in sandwich bags, or use storage containers.

To spice up the recipe a bit, try adding nuts, such as peanuts or chocolate covered walnuts, to your popcorn after you have prepared it. You can also melt white or dark chocolate for added flavor and drizzle it over the chocolate covered popcorn. This is a tasty treat for people who want a snack that combines salty and sweet flavor. You can take it with you to work, school, or in your travels.
