Keeping Tabs Of Your Measurements While On Medifast

By James Fox

Many people who are on the Medifast diet want to know how often they should measure themselves, and many believe that they have to go in for counseling and "weigh in." Others think there is somewhere where you must record your results.

The Medifast diet plan does not require you to weigh in or record your measurements. Doing so is entirely up to you. Some people find that keeping a record helps them stay motivated as they can easily track their progress but this is not a requirement of the program and I, myself, do not journal or chart and only infrequently take my measurements.

Personally, I have always felt pressured by taking measurements and weighing. I can tell how much weight I am gaining or losing by how my clothes fit and how my body looks. When I notice that my clothes are fitting tighter, I see if I need to make adjustments to my diet.

Having enough experience with this program, I have found that there are times I thought I did not do well when I actually made a lot of progress and times when I thought I was sticking with the program and did not make progress at all. So I like to go by the law of averages and figure that everything will work out in the end.

Of course, it feels so good to see your progress, that I'll indulge myself on the last day of the month by breaking out the measuring tape. Doing it monthly really shows results in a way that wouldn't be so impressive if I was checking myself daily. Instead of dreading a daily weigh in and stressing over little variances, I'm almost always excited with my monthly progress check and this keeps me motivated.

To reiterate, the Medifast diet does not require you to measure or weigh yourself at all. That's right, at all. However, if you find that record keeping in this manner is a motivator for you and helps you stay on track, you absolutely can and should do it. But, if you're like me, and dread that daily reckoning, enjoy the freedom of being your own best judge. By observing changes apparent in your own body, you are tracking your progress without even trying.

I can often guess at my weight loss by looking in the mirror as well as by feeling how my clothes fit and if I am more comfortable in them. When I weigh in monthly I often find that I have been quite accurate in my guessing. However, if you are not good at doing it this way then by all means use the method that helps you the most.

The main idea is to stay on track but remain encouraged. There is no right or wrong answer for this because everyone is different and is motivated in different ways. You have to do what's right for you.
