Flavorful Saucy Barbecue Comes Out On Top

By Chloe Gib

There is a universal appeal for Texas BBQ. The mouth watering, succulent, bone sucking flavors light up the taste buds like no other. This creation from authentic Mexican food recipes, whether known as barbecue, barbeque, or barbie, always solicits the same positive response.

There are other types of barbecue that exist in the world. Carolina, Memphis, and Kansas City are a few of those styles that have cemented their place in the annals of barbecue history. But if they are in annals of history then it must be stated that Texas barbecue wrote the book.

There is a key that allows it to stand head and shoulders above the rest. It is not about the thoughts of cowboys on trail rides when the name is mentioned. Neither is it about the vision that can come to mind. A very distinct key comes through the fact that beef is the primary meat used. Other styles may be more focused on taste than the meat. Pork and Chicken can be used in Memphis and Carolina recipes. Beef and barbecue are an awesome match of flavor and substance.

Texas barbecue grew from authentic Mexican food recipes. These recipes were heavy on spices like chili powder and dry mustard. Spices like salt, black pepper, and garlic powder are also added in small amounts. When these are all applied to beef as a dry rub they create a nice layer of flavor that migrates into the meat. The dry rub ingredients can also be a foundation for the sauce, helping to achieve a thin sauce with a bold flavor.

There are several options available when considering how to prepare barbecue. Grills powered by gas or charcoal are the standard options that can be seen in many backyards. Cooking over an open pit is an original approach that has been used for centuries. Smokers have also been around but are gaining popularity in individual homes. This approach can provide more opportunities to enhance flavor. Through the use of different types of wood in the smoker preparing barbecue can be become an art form.

The garnish that enhances barbecue is not parsley. The garnish is the function that is taking place when the barbecue is being eaten. Aside from the restaurant visits, it creates enjoyment at picnics and family gatherings. It can cool down the summer and warm up the winter with a cooking vacation. It is strong enough to be the focus of a television show. As a universal piece it can complete the puzzle of any scene of happiness.

Texas BBQ has stood the test of time. There are constant attempts to perfect it. But really there is no perfecting perfection. Regardless of location, it will continue to be enjoyed by all. As long as there is beef there will definitely be Texas barbecue.
